Prosperity Commons: Supportive Housing Community

Prosperity Commons is our flagship supportive housing initiative dedicated to providing safe, affordable, and recovery-focused housing for men transitioning from homelessness, incarceration, and substance-use recovery.

This community is being developed as a multi-phase supportive housing and workforce pathway campus, designed to offer:

  • Code-compliant, safe housing

  • Supportive environments for stabilization

  • Life-skills development

  • Access to partner-provided recovery and case-management services

  • Transportation access and community connectivity

  • A future on-site workforce development hub (pending funding)

Impact Goals:

  • Up to 80 supportive housing beds across multiple phases

  • Transportation access for residents

  • Partnership-driven wraparound support

  • Clear pathways from recovery → stability → independence

Workforce Pathways & Economic Mobility

This program will be housed at Prosperity Commons and will provide residents with structured employment pathways that help them transition into sustainable work.

Future Program Components Include:
  • Skilled trades training (construction, electrical fundamentals, tool safety)
  • Remote work and digital job readiness
  • Resume coaching, interviewing, and job placement support
  • Case management for employment stability
  • Life skills and financial literacy workshops

This initiative is not yet fully funded. Funding will directly support training staff, technology access, job readiness tools, and program expansion.

Affordable Housing Acquisition & Development

Status: Ongoing

Focus Areas: Housing Access • Community Revitalization • Stability

NCGDI works to acquire, develop, and preserve affordable housing units across North Carolina. By partnering with landlords, investors, and municipalities, we help expand safe and stable housing opportunities for low-income families and individuals in recovery or transition.

Our work includes:

  • Identifying underutilized or vacant properties

  • Developing or rehabilitating homes for affordable rentals

  • Partnering with landlords for guaranteed rent units

  • Ensuring code compliance and safe living conditions

 

This initiative directly supports residents who need stable housing as the foundation for recovery, employment, and independence.

Landlord & Community Housing Partnerships

Status: Active
Focus Areas: Guaranteed Rent • Housing Expansion • Community Solutions

NCGDI partners with private landlords and property owners to expand affordable rental availability through guaranteed rent programs and supportive tenant placement.

Program benefits include:

  • Guaranteed rental payments

  • Lower vacancy rates

  • Supportive tenant case management

  • Property preservation support

  • Community impact through housing assistance

This program helps rapidly increase the number of available affordable units while supporting property owners who want to contribute to community housing solutions.

Community Support & Recovery Pathways

Status: Ongoing (Delivered Through Partners)
Focus Areas: Stabilization • Recovery • Wellness

Through strategic community partnerships, NCGDI connects residents to essential support services, including:

  • Recovery and sobriety support

  • Peer groups and mentorship

  • Mental health referrals

  • Transportation to appointments

  • Benefits navigation

  • Re-entry support for returning citizens

 

These partnerships ensure that residents have the wraparound support needed to achieve long-term stability.

Through these projects and programs, NCGDI is committed to expanding housing access, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for long-term independence. As funding increases, additional phases of Prosperity Commons and new supportive housing developments will be activated across North Carolina.
