About Your Gift

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my donation go?

100% of your donation funds NCGDI's core programs — affordable housing development at Veterans Village and Prosperity Commons, recovery support services, and workforce pathways for veterans and individuals in North Carolina. We do not use donations for excessive administrative overhead.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. NC Growth & Development Initiative, Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 99-4545063). All cash donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt by email immediately after your gift.

Who does NCGDI serve?

We serve homeless veterans, individuals in recovery, returning citizens, and low-income families across North Carolina — primarily in Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad. Our tenants are referred through HUD-VASH, the VA, and the local Continuum of Care (CoC), ensuring housing reaches those with the most critical need.

What is Veterans Village?

Veterans Village is NCGDI's planned 36-unit permanent supportive housing development for homeless veterans in Winston-Salem, NC. The project is sited on city-owned parcels and is supported by CDBG, HOME, VA GPD, and HUD-VASH voucher funding. Your donation directly accelerates this development.

Can I make a recurring donation?

Yes. Monthly recurring donors are the backbone of our ability to plan and grow. A recurring gift — even $25/month — provides year-round housing stability for veterans and individuals in need across North Carolina. You can cancel or modify at any time.

How is NCGDI accountable?

NCGDI partners with the City of Winston-Salem, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the local Continuum of Care — all of which require rigorous financial and programmatic reporting. We maintain full transparency with donors and publish impact outcomes annually.

The Need in NC

Why Affordable Housing Donations Matter in North Carolina

North Carolina faces a significant affordable housing shortage. Thousands of veterans, individuals in recovery, and low-income families across the Piedmont Triad lack access to safe, stable, and affordable housing — a foundational need for health, employment, and community stability.

NCGDI addresses this gap through a comprehensive housing-to-services model: we develop and acquire affordable units, connect residents to VA and HUD-funded support services, and provide the wraparound case management that makes housing stability last.

Your tax-deductible donation to NCGDI directly funds affordable housing development, recovery services, and workforce pathways for North Carolinians in need — with full 501(c)(3) accountability and government oversight.
